I really wanted a hat for warmer weather and bad hair days, and this open beret is what I came up with.
This easy lace hat knits up quickly in fingering weight yarn. The name is inspired by Tolkien, and means Star in the High Elvish language.
"Elen síla lúmenn' omentielvo." A star shines on the hour of our meeting. -J.R.R.Tolkien
Yarn: Any fingering weight sock yarn. Examples shown are Green: Crystal Palace Panda Cotton (Sprite Green), Lavender: Sheepy Time Knits Panda Feet (Orchid), and Raspberry: Blue Mood Fiber Arts Socks That Rock Lightweight (Bleeding Hearts). All sizes can be knit with less than 100g. The green sample was knit with exactly 1 ball of Panda Cotton.
Needles: US size 3 / 2.25mm needles or size needed to achieve gauge, either 16 inch circular and a set of DPNs, or other method for small diameter knitting (2 circs or magic loop).
Gauge: 26-sts/4" in stockinette stitch.
Sizes: given in 3 sizes, to fit youth small (lavender), small adult (green), and loose adult (raspberry). The small adult size fits as a slouchy cap on an adult, or a lose beret on a child.
